TIPS AND TRIPS
Joncy and our hamlet Balas are situated in between the wine regions Cote du Chalonnais en de Beaujolais.
In the neighbourhood you will find nice wine-caves to discover, we will give you some tips. Or ask us about restaurants for just simple meals or with a michelin-star. On wednesday there is a possibility to join the meal with us; many restaurants are closed that day. A cooking-course is possible through 'Cuisine d'Amis' with products from our own biological vegetable garden. The Cote d’Or, with places like Beaune and Dijon, is on short distance.
If you like Culture and History then places like Cluny, Macon and Chalon sur Saone are in easy reach. Solutré, Vergisson and the caves of Azé are préhistoric sites. Le Creusot and the canal de Bourgogne are interesting old industriel sites.
A TGV train station is on 30 minutes distance; it takes 1 hour and 20 minutes into the center of Paris (Gare de Lyon) !
If you like cycling you can follow the 'voie verte' (80 km long on an old railwaytrack) from the nearby town St Gengoux-le National. There are lots of walking possibilities in the area; we have maps available for you in the gite or at the Tourist Office VVV .
There is a small supermarket in Joncy, and a bakery; in the Hotel de Commerce you can order a good meal.
Tips for winecaves:
Caves like Mercurey, Rully, Givry, Bouzeron, St Veran, Vire Clesse, Beaujolais are on traveling distance and you can find good wines; Beaune and Pommard are a little further on , but they make a good day-trip.
